A CASE STUDY FOR
THE TOM KERRIDGE GROUP

Kylemark have been supplying Tom Kerridge’s Michelin Star Hand & Flowers Pub with aprons for a while now. But when we were asked to create a brand new design for not only the Hand & Flowers but also The Coach and The Butchers Tap & Grill, we jumped at the chance.

The Brief
This wasn’t completely straight forward. We were to come up with a design that was similar theme across all three establishments but different enough to distinguish between them. Also, each eatery would have three styles of apron; Front of House, Chef and Prep. Front of House had also to come in two different sizes and follow the colour theme of each pub or restaurant.

The Concept
So, we started with the premier Hand & Flowers using its new copper signage as inspiration on colouring. We kept the same grey as their previous aprons using the copper rust and black as accent colours. To give these aprons a more premier feel we added a leather halter with antique brass clips and eyelets. From this initial design we then modified colours and fabrics for the other styles and restaurants.

The Mock-up & Samples
Before we even think about samples we create a virtual mock-up of each apron with all specifications. This is a great way for our clients to see the finished product allowing them to modify the design if necessary.

Once this was signed off actual samples were created and shipped to the three Marlow restaurants.

Tweeking the Design
Once the samples were received there were very few design changes; aprons and ties a bit longer, chefs apron buckles changed to plastic, that was it. This is where the mock ups do pay off as we didn’t need to resend any new samples. We were good to go.

Bespoke, UK Made Aprons
This job was now passed to our factory floor where the apron components are layed out and cut. With 7 different fabric colours and styles used, time was taken to ensure every part of each apron was cut to spec.

Then it was time to start sewing. The first time with a new apron, especially ones as bespoke as these, takes slightly longer as our team of time served machinists work out the quickest and most efficient way of putting the pieces together. But once into their stride it was heads down to produce the near 400 aprons.

Branding
The branding should match the apron and we chose to do an applique with faux leather. All of this is done in-house to ensure every step of the process is in Kylemarks control.

A Premium Product
These aprons for Tom Kerridge are a premium product and deserved to be treated as such. Every apron was wrapped individually and boxed in there departments ready to be handed out to the staff.

We are delighted on how these aprons look and hope Hand & Flowers, The Coach and Butchers feel the same. We have now set up Uniform Buyer, our dedicated web portal for each venue to order online when more aprons are needed. This makes it such a simple process to reorder.

An Apron for Everyone
Since then we have gone on to supply Tom’s new Butchers Tap and Grill in Chelsea as well as continuing to supply his exsisting restauranys in Marlow. We pride ourselves on service at Kylemark and anyone can have a bespoke apron. Yes, they maybe do cost a bit more but probably not as much as you think.

Our county range of aprons are all made to order and as such are quite easily modified to your needed spec. With 26 years of experience in the uniform trade Kylemark can help steer you in the right direction. Why not give us a call on 0800 195 4900 to have a chat or just drop us an email.
